Oliver Ressler,

ALTERNATIVE ECONOMICS, ALTERNATIVE SOCIETIES
in das Kunstraum der Universitaet Lueneburg

Weitere:
Als Teil des Sparwasser-programs in der Ausstellung "Berlin North" in Hamburger Bahnhof spricht O. Ressler am 26. Februar in der Auditorium: Videopräsentationen "Disobbedienti" und "This is what democracy looks like!" mit anschließender Diskussion

Eoghan McTigue

'Mercedesstern' is a 16mm film of a huge illuminated Mercedes
logo that rotates slowly and evenly above the Europa Centre on
Tauentzienstrasse. The Europa Centre was built in 1965, four
years after the Berlin Wall was erected, the area marked the
'new' centre of west Berlin until the wall came down in 1989. In
my work I'm interested in investigating forms of display in the
built environment, I'm also interested in the way we approach
and accord value to works of art in the context of museums and
galleries. The projects I've been working on recently mix
photography or film and architectural space to explore the way
these different elements interact and create meaning.

Eoghan McTigue was born in Galway, Ireland in 1969, he studied
Fine Art at University of Ulster, Belfast and then completed an
MA in Art and Architecture at the Kent Institute of Art and
Design. He has recently completed a year long residency at
Kunst-Werke Berlin (2002). He is currently preparing a solo
exhibition for the Context Gallery in Derry (2004) and a film
commission to be screened at the Project in Dublin (2004) and
the Goethe Institute Inter Nations (2004).

He has had solo exhibitions at the Project, Dublin, Old Museum
Arts Centre, Belfast, Proposition Gallery, Belfast, Golden
Thread Gallery, Belfast and at the University of Illinois,
Chicago. Other recent exhibitions include 'Freespace', PCBK
Provincial Centre for Visual Arts, Hasslet, Belgium (2003), How
things turn out, at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin
(2002) 'Greyscale/ CMYK', Tramway, Glasgow (2002), D.A.E., San
Sebastian, (2002), Source magazine (2002), Plug In Institute for
Contemporary Art, Winnipeg, (2001), Eurojet futures, at the
Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin (2001) The International
Language,, grassy knoll productions, Belfast (2001), ARCO Art
Fair,, Madrid, (2001)

-English version--

Damien Deroubaix: "The big Feast"
Snout in the air, a freshly coiffed beige poodle on the green appears to expect a golf ball to land. Then there is the clash: a sign over the tidy animal reads "Eat the rich," turning the lawn into a sparring ring. Damien Deroubaix's drawing illustrates a canine version of the class wars, and mommy's little precious is either a would be bull's-eye or a Bolshevik pit bull.
To get to the heart of this work, one must go straight to its meatiest parts, and not get lost with the crumbs. Like all comical caricature, the artist focuses on the basics. But even so, he dishes up some baffling creatures, like his stoic hound dog, a painted sculpture of a bulldog tamed like a garden gnome. The beast evokes a shop of horrors or a freak show.
Human beings also aren't spared from the constant twists and turns that form the basis of the artist's vocabulary: pin-up girls whose peaches and cream complexions have faded, with their too tight g-strings and ill-fitting brassieres; melancholy warriors who have stopped feeling the heat of the desert; and dancing skeletons. And the headless dinosaurs, fallen eagles
and mutilated sharks.

Emilie Renard and Aurélie Voltz, Public > Paris
Presentation/ dialog

Public>
4, impasse Beaubourg
75003 Paris
01 42 71 49 51
public@voila.fr
www.onoci.com/public

Public > is devoted to the spread of contemporary arts.

In January 1999, a group of seven people, mainly artists, created an alternative space in a Parisian cultural background lacking of lively and experimental projects.

In October 2001, they were replaced by a new team of three people. Since then, Émilie Renard, Aurélie Voltz and Giovanna Zapperi, all curators, have been taking over the programmes with many collaborations of artists and independent curators.

Public > is a laboratory which puts the emphasis on experimentation and risk taking, with an approach aimed at highlighting the creative process rather than the final object. Programming is focused on the meeting between different ways of approaching artistic creation, and acts at the very outside margins of the various disciplines.
The action of Public > is somewhere between visual arts, live shows, literature and music, whilst also offering other types of "entertainment".
Programming is divided between events lasting several days or weeks and focusing on one question, and more occasional or lightweight interventions in different and unusual forms.
Public > also operates as a production structure, offering indoor and outdoor events. Public > develops links with similar structures in France and abroad to construct joint projects. Public > also occasionally offers its help to young stewards for specific projects as a way of stretching our curiosity.

MADS LYNNERUP

Mads Lynnerup was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1976. He lives and works in both San Francisco and Berlin and has a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Mads has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions in various international locations including Berlin, Copenhagen, Denver, Havana, Lisbon, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Osnabrück, San Francisco, Tallinn, Torino, Riga and Vancouver.

The work of Mads Lynnerup is based on simple ideas and actions that are primarily conceived through sculpture, photography, performance and video. In many circumstances these different media merge and overlap. In order to get his point across, Mads often times uses humor and a good amount of curiosity to experiment and create a dialogue between his work and the audience.

In October Mads will be participating in this years California Biennial 2004 at the Orange County Museum, California.

Please check out the homepage of the artist to see some examples of his' work.

DANIEL SEIPLE

Daniel Seiple lives and works in Berlin and New York City. He has worked in various collaborations which have produced a body of site-specific installations, performances, and videos. In 2000, he co-founded The E-Team with Hajoe Moderegger and Franziska Lamprecht. The group staged projects at various venues including the Bronx Museum of Art, the World Views Residency in the World Trade Center, and Momenta Art, Brooklyn. From 2001 - 2002, he also worked with Mir2, a multimedia installation which used an international space station as a model for collaboration (Smack Mellon, Brooklyn, Islip Art Museum, NY). However, since 2003 Daniel has worked individually in pursuing new forms of collaborations and strategies for site-specificity. In his latest effort, Thumbs Up, Daniel made an Earth-sized drawing propelled by his search for new collaborations in the form of hitchhikers.

Daniel's work is site and time specific. Each project is a surveying of a space, territory, or situation. The work is often performative in order to achieve dynamic interactions with the environment. This aspect adds a dimension of unpredictability wherein Daniel and the work can explore their relationship to the site, audience, and boundaries of these relationships.

Daniel currently is on exhibit at the Soap Factory, MN and will be showing at Southern Exposure, San Francisco in January 2005.

VASIF KORTUN

visits in order to have a conversation with the audience,
about the exhibition "Placebo Effect", which he curated for Sparwasser HQ.

In March 2004 Vasif Kortun invited Sparwasser HQ to bring our Berlin activities to Platform in Istanbul. For us the "Placebo Effect" exhibition in Berlin is an important opportunity to extend our knowledge about artists working in Turkey and an opportunity to consolidate and extend the network, which was initiated in March.

Vasif Kortun is director for Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center. Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center was initiated in September 2001. Located in Beyoglu, the most vibrant part of Istanbul, Platform acts as a central meeting point in the city for cultural exchange between contemporary artists, curators and critics. The building contains an artist archive, research and lecture spaces, Istanbul Residency Program (open to international contemporary visual artists, critics and curators of contemporary art) and on street level a gallery committed to exhibiting contemporary art from Turkey and abroad.
