Jannicke Låker
Michael Brunntrup
Bo Melin

Sparwasser HQ proudly presents No. 17 and Hit by Tits, two films by Norwegian artist Jannicke Låker. Besides Loverfilm by Michael Brunnstrup (D), and Let's go bananas by Bo Melin (N) will be shown.

In one sense the films by Jannike Låker, now living and working in Berlin, can be described as hilarious. They are entertaining, since one is seduced by the straight forward narrative and the realistic staging of the events. However, they are leaping into a point where they turn almost painfully embarrassing.

In both films Låker plays the aggressor from behind the camera, where she stages herself as the dominating part. She investigates the psychological trajectory in gaining another persons confidence, only to spoil their innocence by using them in a manipulating game of humiliation and taking away their dignity. This is taken to an extreme, but functions as a criticism of society by pointing at a very negative, though commonly recognisable, side of human behaviour.
The video is recognised as a powerful media, towards which people are extremely humble, not only in the sense of the victimised subject in front of the camera, being exposed, and thereby vulnerable, but no less in the sense of the audience also being manipulated, confronted with the paralysing effect of the film. As an audience one sympathises with the subject, to a point where one can feel the discomfort on your own body, as a result of the cinema's high degree of empathic effect.

As bonus tracks on this Saturday's video screening, Låker has invited the German artist Michael Brunnstrup to show Loverfilm, and Norwegian artist Bo Melin, to show Let's go bananas. You are offered 11/2 hours of interesting art videos in the comfortable sorroundings of Z-bar Kino. The programm will start at 22.00 sharp!
